Grief,
the great unravelling of our tightly knitted ball of control.

The reminder that we are human,
In all the beauty,
And frailty that weaves –
Where we tentatively balance on the thread,
held in the tension,
Of mortality – and eternity.

It exposes our errant kinks,
Our frayed stretches,
And faded colour –
Yet reveals too,
Our strength in unity,
Our courage to hold on,
To remain connected to the whole.

This unravelling is tender,
Raw,
But the one who holds us in skilled hands,
Is also gentle.

Using this process to smooth,
To restore us to the true –
We will come through,
More beautiful,
More effective,
To be wound again –
This time more openly –
Around the core of who we are.
